Home Building Process

OFFSITE BUILDING WITH MATT KEIM BUILDERS

Building a new home is an enjoyable and straightforward process with Matt Keim Builders. Let our experience work for you as we handle the behind-the-scenes aspects of creating your ideal home.

Matt Keim, the owner and president of MKB, has spent his life learning the craft from his dad and grandpa as they built thousands of homes. After many years of hands-on experience, Matt acquired substantial knowledge about home building and the dedication it entails. Following his graduation from the University of Denver with a degree in Real Estate and Construction Management, he returned to Illinois to assume the roles of superintendent and sales manager for Keim Corporation.

The insights gained during those years influenced his decision to embark on a new home building venture, thereby becoming the third generation in his family to craft high-quality custom homes.

The Process of Building a New Home:

1. STEP ONE – INITIAL MEETING AND CONTRACT:

We will arrange a meeting to discuss your priorities and vision.

  • Lot and Home Selection – We will assess your lot and discuss potential floor plans. We offer customizable floor plans or can create one tailored to your needs.

  • Budget and Financing – Numerous financial considerations arise when considering an offsite build. We will assist you in asking the right questions to establish a realistic budget and explore payment options available. During this phase, we will enter into a Professional Services Agreement to create a set of Architectural plans and pricing.

  • Structural Changes and Pricing – The construction process can progress rapidly after contract signing, we prefer to finalize any structural changes and pricing beforehand. We will also provide pricing for interior options to enhance your understanding of the selection process.

  • Contract – We will review the contract together, and you will have a 5-day attorney review period.

  • Selections – We will collaborate with you and offer guidance throughout the process of selecting the finishing touches for your home. Should you prefer, we also have an external decorator available for you to work with.

2. STEP TWO – CONSTRUCTION (ROUGHLY 180 DAYS)

During this phase, you will witness your dream transforming into reality through periodic walk-throughs. These walk-throughs enable you to witness the home coming to life from the blueprint.

  • Day of Dig – Our customers relish the opportunity to witness the project's initiation and take a photograph in front of their vacant homesite or freshly excavated basement.

  • Framing – At this juncture, we will meet you at the construction site to showcase progress and inspect the placement of mechanicals (electric, HVAC, low-voltage, and plumbing) inside your walls before they are concealed.

  • Trim – Your envisioned home truly begins to take shape during this stage. Cabinets, hardwood floors, tile, and trim are installed. You can also preview selected stain colors before painting.

  • Homeowner Orientation – Approximately two weeks before the closing date, we will meet at the home to provide a comprehensive tour and explain how everything operates. Additionally, we will compile a punch-list of any items requiring attention before closing.

3. STEP THREE – CLOSING AND HOUSEWARMING

Your new house is now complete and ready for you to transform into a home. We stand behind all our homes with a one-year warranty and remain available to address any questions that may arise well into the future.
